Little Taiwan @ 1Utama Shopping Complex

Just over the opposite of Penang Flavours and Otak-Otak Place, there's this restaurant called Little Taiwan: Papa Beef and Mama Chop. It was almost dinner time, and we're hungry. So, just nice to try out some Taiwanese cuisine. Besides, they got big beef specialist wall posters that its pretty hard to take my eyes of them. So, if you like to eat beef; This is a good place to try.

They have lots of variety of beef dishes. Since I was hungry, I went for one of the recommended dishes called the Three Treasures Beef. Which they serve 3 different beef parts, plus rice with beef sauce and small sides of cucumber & tomato and acar. Amazingly, the service is pretty fast. But then, its possible that the tables aren't filled up yet since we ate a little early. At 5pm.

The other dish ordered was the Salted Chicken Chop. The small sides are of the same. Comes with white rice and the chicken chop isn't that salty but its crispy. just have to watch out for some bones. It uses the drumstick side - flattened and fried.

We ordered a wanton soup. Comes in 6 pieces. Has a few vegetables in it. The soup is ok. The wanton is a little bit small. Err.. I didn't manage to photo shoot the soup. I was dipping on my beef rice already at that time... urr.. hungry mah!

For the drinks, one was bubble red tea. Nothing special. The other is a strawberry shake. Its nice, not too sourish and not too sweet. Just nice. Recommended to try if you're a strawberry lover.

all this with 2 main dish and 1 small soup plus the 2 drinks. Total is just slightly below RM50.00 for 2 people's consumption.

I would come back again to try the other dishes as they have spicy and ramen dishes. Looks kinda spicy hot too.. hmmm... well, I'll put that review in when the time comes.

Penang Flavours @ 1Utama Shopping Complex

Found a nice place to have some snacks between breakfast and lunch. Just before our movie show "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen". Found this restaurant just next to Otak-Otak Place. Thought we should try it out.

Since its a light snack, we didn't really order stuff like asam laksa or mee goreng which was listed in the menu as recommended dishes. Instead, we order recommended light dishes like Chee Cheong Funn, Tofu Bakar and Popiah wrap.

For drinks, I ordered cold limau kasturi. Its refreshing. But also a little bit too sour. But it won't be called a limau kasturi if its not sour, right?

Two (2) of the dishes we ordered are in the recommendation listed in the menu, denoted by pink stars. I really recommend you to try the Tofu Bakar and Popiah wrap. Among these 2 yummies; I recommend you to try the popiah. But of course its also rare to find places that serves Tofu Bakar. So, its worth a try as well.

The Chee Cheong Funn is a no go for me. Well, I don't fancy sweet sauce over the Funn. There is actually another similar dish of Chee Cheong Funn. But its with curry chicken. I think having a curry chicken at a little wee morning is not a good idea for my stomach.

Definitely worth to come back to try the main dishes the next time round as I heard one of the waiter making arrangement for a reserved table for a family of 10 people. Must a some of the other main dishes that attracts the crowd. Probably the asam laksa.

Umai-Ya Restaurant @ Damansara Uptown

It was a fine Sunday morning where 8 of us gathered for an early morning-noon brunch. With our empty stomachs, we head out to a Japanese restaurant located in Damansara Uptown. Just next to Starbucks and HSBC bank. The name of the restaurant is Umai-Ya Restaurant. And why are we there is that its serving Buffet style, with a difference. You order your buffet style thru a menu. Instead of the normal, all food display on a bar for you to pick.

And did we order a lot! The lunch starts at 11.30am and ends at 2.30pm. And that's how long we stayed at the restaurant! I'm just going to put some of the dishes we ate only. But all of them are recommended. Some, errr.. I didn't manage to photo shoot it in time as we gobbled it up before it reaches the table.

I can't really remember all the dishes name as well. But don't worry, I will include the restaurant's website in here as well and you can take a look at the menu there as well and its names.

I'd highly recommend the salmon sashimi. Its very fresh and thickly sliced. The unagi is also very fresh and tasty. For drinks, you have 3 choices; Ocha(green tea), coke and tiger beer (free flow).

If you eat beef, you should also try it. Its very tender and nicely cooked. Else, the chicken teriyaki, cold baby octopus, and soft crabs are also mouth watering.

For desserts, I would really recommend you all to try the green tea ice-cream, chocolate ice-cream and especially the wasabi ice-cream. If you love wasabi, you will definitely love the wasabi ice-cream.

All for this lunch buffet, its priced at RM48++ (as of June 2009). Its really worth it as the portion and serve per plate much like out of the menu. So, its not like the normal buffet style you have at Shogun (though, I have to review on that yet).

Its really worth the try. Here is their restaurant's website and the promotion they are advertising. http://www.umai-ya.com/buffet.php

Otak-Otak Place @ 1Utama Shopping Complex

Feeling hungry after a morning movie of Monster vs. Aliens at 1Utama Shopping complex. Head out to the new wing that lines up with lots of new restaurants. Its nearby the Cold Storage Supermarket. You can't miss it as there is a old bicycle placed outside the restaurant. After viewing a lot of the new restaurants around the area, we decided to pack our tummies with Otak-Otak Place.

They were offering a lunch package meal for 2 person. 4 dishes plus 1 soup, 2 rice and 2 choices of drinks. All for only RM18. Not to waste time scouting for other seemingly nice looking food restaurants as we got another movie to attend at 2pm, we decided to try out the Otak-otak Place. Besides, we can try out the other restaurants other time. Just making this our 1st stop.

We ordered the lunch meal set. The seatings is cozy and comfortable. My only concern is that the waiters and waitress should have more attention to look out for customer's calling and not talking to among each other.

The 1st 3 dishes are spicy tofu with peanuts, acar-acar and spicy gravy chicken (countable. 4 small piece only. About the size of a quarter chicken). Soto ayam soup. The soup was not hot enough. But it wasn't cold either. Just not hot enough to be a hot soup.. that's what I was just implying.

The 2 drinks were hot barli and an Ice-lemon tea. I didn't snap the photo of the ice-lemon tea drink because it wasn't a nice drink to begin with. So, I didn't bother to snap a photo of it. The barli however was very nice. That's why the photo is here.

The last dish was the otak-otak. I'd give it one thumbs up. Almost similar taste to the famous Muar Otak-otak. I think that's why the restaurant's name is also based on its signature dish as well. It was almost like saving the best dish for the last but unfortunately, either we're very hungry or they took a longer time to cook it. The otak-otak dish only came when we're almost finishing the rest of the dishes and the white rice we had.

Overall, a nice place to eat as the food is ok. But preferred if they buck up their customer service.
